Don’t get me wrong, my health wasn’t always a high priority for me.
It wasn’t that long ago that I was sitting in my studio apartment drinking my third soda of the day and stuffing my face with the most delicious NYC french fries that were slathered in cheese, bacon and the works. I was working 60 plus hours a week and constantly stressed and maxed out.
I was fighting so hard to win my boss’s approval, build my career as a digital marketer and survive in the city that doesn’t sleep. I worked non-stop and pushed myself to every limit, until slowly my life force began to fade and I started living my life on autopilot.
Honestly, I didn’t think I had the time or money to take care of myself. And, frankly, I didn’t think it was that important. After the autopilot set in, it started to catch up to me quicker. My priorities became working and sleeping as much as I could. I began to lose interest in life. Did I mention my studio apartment was in the basement? That’s right ladies and gents – no sun, loads of stress, bad nutrition and loss of interest in life. You can see where this is going.
And my wake-up call happened at a small grocery store on the upper east side of Manhattan. I hadn’t eaten in 24 hours. Exhausted and hungry, I made my way out of my apartment and to the grocery store down the street from me. It was on my way to the deli counter that I felt my ears begin to ring. The next thing I knew, I was lying on the floor watching gracious EMTs carry me to the ambulance.
I guess my blood sugar was low. And I guess I’d forgotten to put actual food into my body for a long time. And guys, I guess I was 10 weeks pregnant. I still cringe at the memory of how poorly I took care of myself and my baby during those dark times. But, those times also shown a light on my glaringly obvious problems and pushed me to start a transformative journey.
Landon Robert John Simon Swortfiguer (as his Mima calls him) made his grand entrance and, as expected, forever changed my life. This little boy somehow held the key and mighty power to unlock a healthier life for me.
I’m telling you this story, so you understand that my journey to a healthy lifestyle was filled with a lot of potholes and speed bumps. I was unhealthy by every stretch of the imagination, and it took me years to dig deep and find the courage and will to transform my life.
Overtime, I discovered that true health is not a medicine cabinet filled with prescription drugs. It’s not the latest diet or workout regimen. No sir. True health is accomplished through feeding the mind, body and soul. And, guess what? You have the ability to heal emotional trauma and physical aliments by achieving optimal health and actually taking care of yourself.
If you’re like me all those years ago, you might be rolling your eyes right now. And, that’s okay! But, if you have a glimmer of hope that what I’m saying might actually be true, I’m here to tell you that it is possible.
Each of us holds the power to heal our body and mind under optimal conditions. But, western culture and societal norms leave many believing that they don’t have control over their health.
This blog will give you the roadmap and tools that you need to transform your life, feel better than ever and truly live your best life.
